So I've been following this lead of 8 kittens that were born around July 26th. There was a lot of back and forth, they weren't promised, they were, they weren't really, they weren't up to seeing anyone yet.... and today, I got to see them.
They were so tiny and adorable!
I'd never seen kittens younger than 8 weeks before because my cats were always spayed/neutered and I didn't know anyone whose cat had had kittens. Pet stores won't take them until they're 8 weeks old, and that's the only place I got to see them. These babies were only 4.5 weeks old, not ready to come home yet, but alert and interested (once they got used to their surroundings).
The girl who was in charge brought them to a local pet store that she worked at, and we brought an old baby playpen to hold them in. 7 out of the 8 came - one was at home with the mother - and 6 of those 7 were available. There were three calicos of varying coloring, three orange tabby boys, and one b&w - she was going to be the store's pet. I immediately picked up a sweet little calico girl with tan ears and forehead. Initially she just sat in my arms without moving much, but eventually became interested in climbing all over me XD She was my absolute favorite and I claimed her quickly. I had to consider whether getting two was the best option - littermates would make the best companion for a lonely kitty, and while I don't anticipate going on lots of trips, I do know there will be times when I won't be home for a few days to a week throughout the year. I wanted to choose a friend, but the other two calicos became someone else's choice right away. Only the tabby boys were left.
When we initially took the kittens out of the cat carrier and into the playpen, one of the tabbies immediately rushed over to the side and started to climb out! He got to the top before we noticed! I'm fairly sure that's the boy I picked - he was very playful throughout the time there - at the very end like most of the others he was tired out, of course, but we brought toys to play with them and he was eager to participate. Holding him was a bit of a challenge, he wanted to climb right up and over my shoulder!
We did take pictures of the ones we liked, but they're on my mother's camera so no photos yet (sorry! (^^;;)). The calico is easy to tell apart from the rest, but the tabby has a brother who is very similar, but more dark orange than him. Hopefully I can pick him up before his brother goes off to his location - someone else just wanted "a cat" without caring too much which one so they got the last one available.
Initially I wasn't sure if my husband would be up for getting two at once since he's never had pets before, but so far he's seemed very receptive. He knows I'll be the one to take care of them, so it's not much work on his part anyway XD I'm so excited! They will be ready to come home early to mid September~ if I don't upload the initial photos by then, I'll take lots of new ones anyway!
So last night I thought I'd be good and try to go to bed before the sun came up. And I was in bed, trying to sleep... when the Boy comes upstairs and goes "We have an invader in our living room." He says it's worse than bugs.
What is worse than bugs?
Mice!
I suited up: gloves, shoes, and plastic container. Turned out it was this teeny tiny titmouse that had trapped itself in a large cardboard box in the corner of the living room. Easily caught, but then what? I didn't want to kill it (it was so cute!) but if we let it go outside it would just come back in.
The solution? Drive to the town over and drop it off in the woods there. (If some of you were thinking of a third option: keep the cutie! Rob would never have let me do that. Plus I'm planning on getting a cat soooooo.....)
Well, since we were going out anyway we did a couple late night/early morning errands, including getting fresh donuts from Dunkin' Donuts :9 Yay strawberry frosted! (I still miss Mr Donut, though (T__T))
I really tried to take a photo of the mouse, I really did. But it was zipping around like crazy. I thought I took a video of it... but apparently not? I can't find it on the card so no vid D: If you're crazy to have blurry photos I can upload a couple but it'll only give you a vague idea of what it looked like. Smaller than a credit card, but obviously more three-dimensional.
Tomorrow'll be the first day with me alone in the house (o.o;;) I'm a little nervous.
I'll start off by saying it certainly has returned to summer weather here (-_-;) Usually I love the hothot weather but this weekend is a bad one for it. The past week had become really cool - I was wearing fall clothes (opaque tights, skirts, sweaters) because I was so cold! Today I'm in shorts and a tank top (^^;;) What a change! (笑)
Okay so almost a week ago now I received my Evil Pinky:st girl (she's the "villian" in Kirakira Music Hour) in the mail. It was a great surprise because I wasn't expecting her so soon (EMS is crazy fast sometimes) but before that there was a shock:
Oh well, anyway...
Evil arrived without damage, and she's wonderfully cheeky (^_~) Her shirt is Engrishy awesomeness: "Super Looky" I didn't take a photo with her goggles on because they just magnify her eyes and make her look even weirder! Plus they're orange.
I really meant to post this when it happened, but somehow I lost initiative/convinced myself I had already made a post so it fell off my radar until now! Whoops....
So I'm sitting here, using my new laptop (the Sony FZ190CTO) and I am just now getting around to moving all my music files from the external hd onto this computer. Now, there's reason for this. I was kind of dreading it.
You see, if you aren't already, you must ask yourself why all my music was on external drive, rather than on my other laptop. In the end it makes this a little simpler, one transfer instead of two, but that's not why. No no.
It's because I have something like 90+gb of music and videos (thanks iTunes!) The music on its own is close to 40gb. I used to be able to put everything on my iPod. Not so, the videos take up too much space, so I just put music and the occasional episode of Psych on it.
When I got my video iPod I thought "Wow! This is going to be great! I can have all my music and all kinds of videos to watch wherever I want!" While that's true, I fear eventually I will completely fill it up with music - no room to spare. I could upgrade to an 80gb one, but I'm hoping Apple will see the light and release 100gbs of space.
Why not just switch to Archos? For one thing, 90% of the videos I have are from iTunes, so they'd only play on the iPod. I also have music, but not as much. I've heard that Apple's going to switch to SSDs but that'll be a big jump backwards in size, though a step forward in tech. I think the rumor was 16gb? That'd probably just hold Ayu's albums XD I do love Archos' design for video, though. If I ever decide to go mobile with non iTunes vid I'll go with them, no problem. It's just the issue of one more device. (And I'm sure I'd get the redundancy lecture again, but really, no machine does everything it does exactly the way I want. Except maybe the HTC Kaiser, but we'll see when I get my hands on it... whenever that ends up being (¬_¬))
Although, I suppose if my music collection goes back to being that big, I'll end up back where I was, with a folder too large to fit comfortably on my laptop's harddrive. In reality, I think I'll only transfer the music to this computer, since I don't have tons of leftover space. I just want to have all my music with me, wherever I go. Videos, eh. Second-class.
In other news, I added my Twitter widget to the sidebar, though I'm disappointed it gets placed at the bottom and there's no way to move it.
ATTN VOX DEVS: Please give me a way to rearrange my sidebar the way I like (^__^)
